# Quick Scan

> Scan a public GitHub repository by URL without installing the RedNest GitHub App.

Quick Scan lets you paste a **public** GitHub repository URL and run a deep security scan without installing the RedNest GitHub App.

## How to run one

1. [Sign in with GitHub](https://rednest.tech/get-started).
2. Open [Scans](https://rednest.tech/dashboard/scans).
3. Paste a public repository URL (for example `https://github.com/owner/repo`).
4. Submit **Quick Scan**.

## What you need

- An authenticated GitHub account.
- A **public** repository. Private repos require the [GitHub App](https://rednest.tech/docs/github-app).
- An available scan allowance (your lifetime free scan, or a holder allowance after $RED activation).

Repositories that are missing, private, or larger than RedNest’s size limit are refused without consuming an allowance in the usual failure path.

## Results

- Progress and findings appear on the scan’s page in the dashboard.
- Quick Scan does **not** publish GitHub Checks or pull request review comments.
- Only you (the requester) can see that Quick Scan’s results under the usual dashboard access rules.
